Eventually we moved our base of operations down the road from Dry Fork to Sooner Rocks, a spectacular slickrock outcropping that made a very dramatic backdrop for our campsite. We were so seduced by the beauty of the spot that we failed to take into account its extreme exposure to the sun and the wind - that is, until the kitchen tent had blown down numerous times and the Syncro's sunshade was mangled in a windstorm. The week's increasing heat had us huddling beneath any shade we could find, and finally drove us out, back to Boulder. |
