Our next hike was intended to be a bit less ambitious, but no less spectacular: taking a spur road not shown on most maps, at about mile 45, we drove out to a similarly unmarked trailhead for a quick and easy drop into Willow Gulch. Our goal was massive Broken Bow Arch, about a mile upstream of the confluence of Willow and Fortymile Gulches. Near the top there are some great, narrow slots to explore, and some wild rock formations as well. Willow Creek had running water quite high up - this was definitely another day for wearing the Tevas. We had a frightening encounter with a startled young calf who had lost his way in the canyon, but everything turned out all right for him in the end... |
